With more than 20 years as a family doctor and a long career in public health, Dr. Mendoza brings a rare combination of frontline clinical experience and big-picture thinking to every patient he sees at Town Square Health.
Dr. Mendoza has been practicing primary care for over 20 years in a variety of clinical settings – including academic primary care training practices and federally-qualified health centers. He prioritizes prevention and screening, patient-centered management of chronic conditions, and the integration of team-based care into primary care.
Dr. Mendoza is also currently Clinical Professor of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences at the University of Rochester where he remains an active educator and researcher. He provides inpatient care and teaching to family medicine residents and guest lecturers in the medical school and nursing school. His current research focuses on oral health disparities and the application of technology to improving access to dental care.
Dr. Mendoza is perhaps most well known for having served for eight years as Monroe County’s Commissioner of Public Health, leading the county’s response to the opioid crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, among other responsibilities. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Willow Domestic Violence Center of Rochester where he served as Chair of the Board during the COVID pandemic, and he is also a board member of the Rochester Hearing and Speech Center, Causewave Community Partners, and a committee member of the Board of the George Eastman Museum. In his spare time, Dr. Mendoza enjoys spending time with his kids and 2 goldendoodles, cooking, photography, DIY home projects, sewing, and DJing (mostly 80s and 90s music).
